How To Resize An Image In Photoshop CS6

Want to resize an image in Photoshop CS6? Follow these simple steps:

  1. Open Photoshop.
  2. Create a new image with the desired size by clicking in the top menu and selecting File > New.
  3. Give your new image a name (optional).
  4. Set the width and height of your new image (in pixels, inches, centimeters, millimeters, points, picas or columns).
  5. Set the resolution at 72 pixels per inch.
  6. Set the color mode as RGB at 8 bits.
  7. Set the background contents as transparent.
  8. Click OK. A new blank document will open in Photoshop.
  9. Open the image that you wish to resize by clicking in the top menu and selecting File > Open.
  10. Find the image you wish to resize on your computer, select it, then click OK. The image will open in a new tab in Photoshop.
  11. Double click on the layer to the right (if it has a padlock on it), then press OK to remove the padlock.
  12. Click the Move Tool in the toolbar.
  13. Left click on the image and while holding down the left click drag the image into the first tab and drop it over the document you created in step 8. The image will appear as a new layer over your transparent background.
  14. To resize the image click in the top menu and select Edit > Transform > Scale.
  15. A white border will appear around the edge of the image you dragged over your new document. Move your cursor over an edge of the white border until the cursor changes from a pointer to diagonal arrows.
  16. Hold down the Shift button (do not hold down the Shift button if you are using the newest version of Photoshop called Photoshop CC) and click and hold the left mouse button down to resize the image until it reaches the desired size. (Note: if you are using Photoshop CS6 and you do not hold down the shift button while resizing the image will scale disproportionately and will become distorted.)
  17. Using the Move Tool, move the image around the displayed area until it is in the desired location.
  18. If you are ready to save the image, click in the top menu and select File > Save As.
  19. Select the location on your computer where you want to save the image.
  20. Name the file.
  21. Select the format that you want to save the image as (usually .JPG or .PNG).
  22. Click the Save button.
